E-coli live in open environments. Because of this, the bacteria has had to adapt, and it produces filamentous structures. This allows the cells to stick to surfaces and makes it hard for them to be washed away or killed. Also, in some areas these cells are facing starvation. In order to adapt, the cells progressively metabolize their carbohydrates. |
